Wayne Reed has served on the faculty of the School of Education at Brooklyn College since 2000. A tenured professor in the Department of Childhood, Bilingual and Special Education, Wayne teaches courses in educational foundations, social studies, community teaching and LGBTQ Youth in Educational Contexts. Wayne is the founding chair of GLBTQ Advocates in Research & Education (GLARE), a gay-straight alliance of faculty and staff in the SOE that began in 2004. As a gay man raised in a conservative, religious cultural context, Wayne is particularly interested in understanding the ways in which he and others negotiate faith, spirituality and queer identity. As an educator and activist, he is concerned to see LGBTQ people everywhere liberated from the bonds of heteronormativity and the oppressions formed by the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, culture and class. When he’s not working, Wayne enjoys terrace gardening, reading and cooking.
